snowed in
yay for snowstorms! not that it really needed to make the international news like it did, it wasn't that bad. i've seen deeper. but they CLOSED the MALL for two whole prime shopping days the week before christmas (which still amazes me) and the postal service definitely didn't come through rain, sleet, and snow like they claim they will. consequently, all holiday-related mail on my part is late. fyi.
i was definitely trapped in my parents' house for a couple of days -- good thing they have a fireplace, which made it that much more acceptable. didn't go skiing as planned, though, because we probably could've made it up to the mountains but couldn't have made it back down. perhaps this week.
my dad was all excited to go driving in the storm in his big ass suv... until he'd only made it 15 miles and it took him three hours to get home. but he didn't exactly learn a lesson, because as soon as it stopped enough to go shovel the driveway, he refused to shovel the half that his car was on because he wanted to run over the snowdrifts at top speed. okay, yes, it was amusing, but not something i'd do on purpose. and i certainly wouldn't sit there giggling in a similarly maniacal fashion.
other than that... we made cookies and i read a couple of books (and got yelled at for being antisocial. seriously?), and we played outside like little kids once the wind stopped. my parents started building a snow tunnel, only it collapsed partway through. i must admit to not helping much with that venture, because the last time i tunnelled through a snowbank i got stuck and couldn't breathe and completely freaked out. that was like thirteen years ago... damn, i'm old.
there are more goofy snow pictures are on the black stripe, but:

wheee!
i kind of like to fall in the snow and just lay there... is that weird?

it's knee deep -- on my dad! (keep in mind that he's 6'6'')
the other exciting part of the adventure was going to the grocery store at the end of the second day. those who have four wheel drives, of course, wanted to drive them as soon as possible, so it was packed with people in oh-so-flattering snow attire. but we're in granola country. so there were also those who decided to backpack. to the grocery store. one chick even had a sled attached to her waist so she could haul the groceries along behind her. totally ridiculous. it was great.
luckily the liquor store was open, too, so we ended the snow holiday with a bottle of champagne for no reason at all. which is the best way to have champagne, if you ask me. so that's how i'll end the post, too.

completely unrelated, but i must note that i don't think i'm a fan of this blogger/google interconnectedness thing. i understand that it's a great business deal, but... frankly, it gives me the heebie jeebies. too much info in too few hands (and i'm too addicted to stop, i guess).
