upon request

ohhh, let's see if i can manage to highlight last week. we weren't as outrageous as you might expect from this particular combination, mostly due to the fact that we did not actually consume much of the alcohol we accumulated for the occasion. but i now have champagne for my birthday...

hmm. tuesday was spent purchasing said alcohol with good intentions, two trips to the liquor depot, and eventually a list. we certainly carted a bottle of vodka around all week. unopened. it's the new security blanket, folks. and it'll even keep you warm should you find yourself stuck in a blizzard. for, you know, a while. and then you'll probably get frostbite and die when you pass out. but who's counting?

wednesday, after mimosas, we went to rocky mountain national park. where i proceeded to fight with the park ranger. he didn't want to let me in because it wasn't my signature on the park pass. bastard. so we went to another entrance and smiled pretty and drove right on into the park, thank you very much, no questions asked. kiss my ass, you repressed little control freak (bitter? what?). no wildlife, but we did entertain ourselves with half a hike up deer mountain. and, of course, by taking stupid pictures (below). and we went to the glassworks, which i can (and often do) spend hours in -- gifts for the family resulted -- and the cherry cider place with the bottles all over the walls. because it makes me happy just to look at it. ah, and we belly danced. *wink.*

and the view. because it's worth it. Posted by Picasa

thursday i worked most of the day and then we drove to my parents' house and... well, sort of sat around really. took a field trip to target for "long underwears," though. that was fun times.

friday we drove really fast on windy roads (mostly even in the correct lane) to silverthorne and dillon. but, sadness, my poor horn is pathetic, not at all suited for making noise in tunnels. we played outlet mall until we were properly weighed down with several enormous bags, at least half of which contained lion-patterned luggage. now who on earth would purchase such? *giggle.* it's classier than it sounds, though, i promise. then (several false starts later) we hiked up above the resevoir and hung around with the radio towers. unfortunately, those pictures are on my old-fashioned camera, and have yet to be developed. pending. also, may i just say hooray for microbreweries? they've often got the best food in town, and we have about a thousand of them around here. you only wish you were cool enough to live in a state that's run by beer. you think i lie. come see for yourself.

that evening we trekked back to the fort and got all dolled up (and completely neglected to take pictures), and went to elliott's because i love it. we eventually closed the bar -- yay for bonding into the wee hours, and yay for free parking if you stay out all night long. it was great, we rang up an enormous tab to the point where the bartender was just bringing us stuff he thought we'd like (which always amuses me). i must once again sing the praises of "i'm batman!," not only because it's the bestest martini name ever, but also because it's pretty damn yummy. and how much fun is that to order? you practically have to strike a pose. honestly, though, even this was relatively exploit free; i felt like we were much more grown up than the last time we played together. it's amazing the difference six months can make. i didn't even hit any furniture or floors or anything...

speaking of hit, though, we WERE hit on by a couple of storm troopers and an errant obi wan. "do you like the dark side?" has to go into my collection of best pickup lines ever. they were from wyoming (explains much) and tried to convince us that the super-elaborate costuming was due to some sort of charity fundraiser, but when it comes right down to it they were STORM TROOPERS. in FULL costume. on not halloween. one of them was cute, though (mine, thank you. i only mention because it's unusual that they be under fifty and roughly humanoid, much less actually cute). i do have to note, because i'm that kind of dork, that i'm pretty sure they started making jokes about the wrong sci fi series. the academy? in star wars? if it's there, i so missed it. so, yes, we closed the place down, and i didn't even get tipsy until i'd already hit home. figures. the abridged drunken quote collection, in case it amuses anyone, is as follows:
"she slept in my bed *gasp!* sockless!"
"am i sexy if i sleep with you in these socks?" (they're like thigh high and horribly striped)
"i think that at this point, the only response is the super ghetto 'we coo'... okay, you missed that, that was a booty dance that hit the wall..."
and, re: me, "she's dressed as a tall person!"

saturday was a hash browns and random asian food kind of day with a sex and the city marathon, and sunday basically passed in watching lala try to stuff all of her shit into her FOUR overstuffed suitcases. well, that and brunch -- with crepes!

it appears we are now old and boring unless we try. but we're also the kind of close that lets us fall back into relaxed as if we have all the time in the world, so the impetus for mischeif just isn't as urgent. and it was certainly good times, even if it ain't so impressive in print. you ask, i overexplain. but we missed you, dee, and we missed being able to wander around (without ever managing to avoid large, permanent hedges) and make people into party games when we got bored. plus there was a decided absence of goats. although la may have spotted a bighorn, that's a similar family of critter.

yeah, you know i can't storytell my way out of a paper bag. maybe my new demonic voices will help me...
