the best thing about pets
is that you can talk to them in strange accents/bad imitations of actual foreign languages/multiple combinations thereof and they will look at you for a while as if interested, sniff their butts (or take an impromptu bath, depending on whether you're talking dog or cat), and continue doing whatever it was they were doing when you interrupted them. they will respond in the same way to basically anything else you then decide to do. go ahead, dance about.

For ahwile, I had some dog biscuits my mom had gotten for her "grandson" and the brand was Ol' Roy.
Everytime I would give Bandit one of them I would affect a real hick accent and proclaim, "Bandit, Ol' Roy came by, and well, he was darn upset he missed ya, but he left his own brand of meat flavored dog biscuits, made by dogs who know what meat is supposed to taste like..." I would usually go on for quite awhile, the whole time I could tell Bandit was thinking "JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN BISCUIT!"
I also use a french accent when I'm serving the dogs dinner, because they deserve a little fancy too!
the other fun thing to do with pets is sign their names on cards to people. they don't care. my mom always put paw prints from the cats and dog on my birthday and christmas cards. i said thank you to them, but i don't think they got it.
ps- THANK YOU FOR THE BIRTHDAY CARD! i love it...it's up on my shelf in my office :)
