we all want to be fairy princesses

during a conversation about tiaras a couple of days ago, it was discovered that most of us owned several. and not just the cheap wal-mart kind, either. why, i ask you? sure, they're fun at parties, i know we all have several instances of photographic documentation to this end. but all that takes is one person and one tiara, not several tiaras apiece. i can't tell you how many times i've seen someone crowned a "fairy princess" or a "pretty pretty princess" (tiara implied) at work in the past couple of months. it's a joke, of course, but at the same time it's not at all. because who doesn't smile at such a commendation? (actually, i could think of one instance involving the adamantly closeted, but i don't know any of them.) why do we all seem to need to be recognized as special in this particular fashion? what wonders does it imply that we lack in our everyday lives?

and, perhaps, how do i continually succeed in turning even the smallest passing incident into a search for meaning?

....upon further consideration, maybe this even suggests a new breed of pocket boy: one with the authority to bestow a tiara, to give recognition and praise where it is due (and, perhaps, not appropriately granted by any other source). let's call him mr. princess for now, since i don't know any self-respecting male who would accept such a title in real life, and it amuses me.
